Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012 Ends On A Great Note.

Multi block Ice sculpturing contest brought four very talented teams to Chelan for the Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012 Ice Sculpting contest.

It was obvious right away that they were all quality professional sculptors and were ready to give us a great show. Each team started with 10, 300 pound blocks of ice to make their masterpieces . Sculpting began at 8 PM Friday evening, and continued through all day Saturday and Saturday night with the conclusion coming at 3 PM Sunday afternoon.

Ice Tour at the Lake Chelan Winterfest will show off Historic Ice Sculptures done by Creative Ice.

This was just one of the many Ice Sculptures being put together this week by Creative Ice for Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012. They were busy all day yesterday going around the Lake Chelan Valley creating sculptures of Lake Chelan history. many of them are located at wineries as well as other choice locations. They are the feature if the Ice Sculpture Wine Tour that will be taking place all weekend long. This sculpture is at the Tsillan Cellars Winery on the south shore of Lake Chelan. Be sure to visit all of the Lake Chelan area wineries this weekend and enjoy some of the most unique award winning wines in the world.

Steve and Justin Cox gave the Ice Slide at the Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012 a quick try after completing it today. Looks like it met their approval. People started lining up immediately to “Do The Slide”.

Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012 1st Day Photos of  “Ice Lounge”.

Lake Chelan Winterfest is again proud to have International Master Ice Sculptor Steve Cox who brings over 20 years of experience to every handcrafted sculpture. Together with his son Justin they create an average of 15-20 sculptures each week. By blending new technology and hand-craftsmanship, Creative Ice brings that special touch to the event that only they can accomplish!

Here are some photos of the “Ice Lounge” getting started today. This will be the featured ice sculpture at this years Winterfest,  The couch you see here will be completed with table, chairs, and of course the bar and serving area. It is estimated that over 50, 000 lbs of ice will be sculptured by Creative Ice during the course of this week.

Manson Apple Blossom selection the end of January 2012.

Everyone is invited to the Manson Apple Blossom 2012 Selection on January 21st, at 7 p.m. at the Manson High School.

This year again brings 10 beautiful and talented young ladies to compete and be part of the Manson 2012 Apple Blossom Royalty. Please come out and support them and enjoy one of the great events of Manson and the Lake Chelan area. We will post more information as it becomes available.

The Manson Apple Blossom Festival is held in May of each year and is one of the premiere events of the Lake Chelan Valley. This year looks better than ever as the Lake Chelan and Manson area continues to be the center for tourism in the state of Washington. Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012

Lake Chelan Winterfest kicked off Saturday January 7 marking the beginning of the week long professional ice sculpturing that will be taking place for the Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012 by Creative Ice. Even though there is no snow this year, we are looking forward to cooler temperatures to keep the sculptures in place for the next week.

Steve and son Justin were all smiles today as they started this sculpture of the Ice Throne in front of the Museum. I talked to them as they were getting started a about 10 AM, and they were on a happy mission of sculpting. I came back a couple different times in two hour intervals and was amazed at the progress that took place each time. Included here are some photos of the progress as it took place. Also a video is available of the setting of one of the 300 lb ice blocks. I will post the final product photo tomorrow. Great work Steve and Justin Cox, and welcome to the Lake chelan Winterfest 2012.

Creative Ice will be building several ice sculptures this week including the popular Ice Bar, complete with ice tables and ice stools. Keep your eyes open as you go through Lake Chelan this week to see where they will be as they move around the town.

The popular Wine Walk featuring the Chelan Wineries is also back this year and has been extended to two days for a better experience. Be sure to visit all of our local wineries during Lake Chelan Winterfest for great wine and excellent food.

Many parasailers were out enjoying the great weather and perfect conditions today at Lake Chelan. The skies were full of color as each one took their turn from launching off of Chelan Butte, and finally landing in Chelan Falls.This is a video of the landing spot in Chelan Falls. Fly In Saw A Big Crowd.

The June 4, 2011 Wally Peterson Memorial fly in this weekend drew a big crowd of airplane enthusiasts. The weather was warm, no wind, all in all a great day for pilots and spectators alike to enjoy this annual event. A pancake breakfast was served with proceeds going to benefit the local airport functions. Those who came later in the day were treated to a lunch menu as well.

What could be better than Cruizin on First Friday in Chelan?

Not much if you are a car buff. The weather was perfect (70 degrees), and there were plenty of cars showing up for the “Show and Shine” in downtown Chelan.

This year the Cruizin event, along with first Friday event found a great crowd in Chelan to enjoy all of the festivities. cars from antique, to classic, to new were all in attendance this weekend.

Lake Chelan Prepares For Another Busy Year

Tourists were taking in the sunshine Saturday as the Memorial Day Holiday marks the official start of the resort season for Lake Chelan.

As is evident by this picture, the town was buzzing with tourists in downtown Chelan. Main street parking was at a premium as the stores and businesses were welcoming everyone. Riverwalk Park was full of people enjoying the lake and the walk along the shoreline.

Be sure to come for the Cruizin Car Show and Wally Peterson Fly in at the airport next week, June 3,4, & 5.

Congratulations to Maghara Depaoli 16 year old daughter of Jaque and Barry DePaoli as she was named Miss Lake Chelan 2011 last night in front of a packed house at the performing arts center. Second Runner Up is Molly Starcher, daughter of gene and Julie Starcher. First Runner Up is Allison Phelps, daughter of Frank and Desiree Phelps.

The judges had their hands full making a decision as each lady in the contest was worthy of the award. In my mind they were all winners.

Sun And Fun At Downtown Winter Blast

Mother Nature gave us one of our 300 days of sunshine Saturday  as the The Historic Downtown Chelan Association (HDCA) hosted the first annual Trax Winter Blast event in Downtown Chelan. The day was filled with with free family activities and super shopping sales.

Kids participated in free sidewalk games, including spin the wheel, ring toss, a cupcake walk, and sink the ball.

In addition to free games, activities and treats, participating merchants also blasted prices with great winter sales. Some merchandise was up to 70% off!

As is obvious in this picture taken late morning in Downtown Chelan, the town was full, and buzzing as people were already busy taking advantage of the sunshine, fun, and great shopping.

Lake Chelan truly is a paradise in the Winter, as well as the Summer, quickly making it one of the best year around resort destinations in the country.

Tsillan Cellars Gears Up For Red Wine And Chocolate Event In Lake Chelan.

Nothing is more delicious than a good wine and the right chocolate shared amid the beauty of the Lake Chelan Valley.

I caught up with Administrative and Event Coordinater Lindsay McKenney of Tsillan Cellars Winery today as she was preparing for the final weekend of the Red Wine and chocolate event in Lake Chelan. This is always a great way to kick off the beginning of the Wine Season in Lake Chelan, and she gave me a little insight in what to expect this weekend.

Tsillan Cellars Winery has released its newest white wine Sempre Amore during the Red Wine and Chocolate event , showing that white wine can also be a decadent choice with chocolate if paired properly.

Sempe Amore, wishes you “Love Always” in Italian. This gorgeous white wine is blended with love and for love from the best of Tsillan Cellars Estate white grapes.

Of course, the natural affinity between dark chocolate and red wine is no secret. The Red Wine and Chocolate event weekend in the Lake Chelan Valley provides a distinctive and elegant offering of fine chocolate and fine wine. The event features more than 14 wineries in the Lake Chelan Valley Wine country during President’s Day weekend. Each winery pairs sumptuous chocolate desserts with their own remarkable red wines.

There’s no real right or wrong way to pair wine and chocolate together, You want to be on the bitter side as far as the chocolate goes.

Just as not every chocolate goes with wine, not every wine goes with chocolate. On the other hand, when the combination of chocolate and wine is well-considered and precisely calibrated, it can be just amazing with a depth of flavor that is nothing shy of luxurious.

The grand contradiction in all of this is that, decadent as wine and chocolate are, both have in recent years gained legitimacy as sources of antioxidants. That potential health benefit may not seem to be the most romantic aspect of the combination.  But, the presence of antioxidants have their own relevance to romance.
